How it is graded....
IMPORTANT NOTE: Science Fair will be held on or about January 20th!
All home schoolers in our community are invited! But this is a Mandatory Science/Art Fair for TACA student final grades. All kids must present both an Art piece as well as a Science piece. Age groups divided 11 years old and younger and 12 years old and up reaching to end of high school. Further division may occur if increased participation. Homeschool Youth 6 years old and under can join and be recognized in participation though their Science/Art Work will not be judged.
There will be a four part check on your projects:
1.How well put together (e.g. A. working with extra lights and extra function & pizzazz, B. working, C. partially working, D. not working at all…points marked down for items purchased without requiring your assembly. More hardwork shown in making, more points added).
2.How well explained (this includes both oral presentations as well as display information to include spelling) You will be tested on your knowledge 'behind' your work and art piece.
3.How much thought went into why you are making it (You will be asked, "...you made this because or to explain what concept? Why this?")
4.How much effort shown you put into the project (e.g. bought pieces for a project verses making the project pieces yourself OR a pre-made bought display verses a homemade display). NOTE: This factor tends to break any ties.
Team projects are only accepted with-in Family Units and will require separate grading upon each persons part involved (NOTE: Collaboration may cause a mark down when in comparison with another project done solo if the project is not extensive enough to quantify requiring multiple partners- in other words, everyone needs to put in some provable hard work).
EXAMPLE JUDGING SHEET:
Only three prizes per age grouping will be awarded in the promotion of good sportsmanship. If you cannot be at the specific event you can make your presentation at another earlier timeframe with a judge photographing/recording (NOTE: This is not preferred because it may cause unintentional mark down on different aspects when photos/memories are compared to live Fair displays because your display and presentation are not presented in full during the Fair).
If for some reason the student misses this event (due to sickness, etc.) the student will have to make their presentation afterwards though no award will be given.
